The request
Yahoo Finance reported on September 23 that Kalshi has asked the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to allow margin trading on prediction markets. Margin means trading with borrowed money against a position. On a contract that pays if an event happens, leverage makes a wrong side more expensive, faster.
The published report, as used here, is the ask. It does not include a CFTC yes or no. A day earlier, CNBC reported that the same agency had warned exchanges that mentions contracts, the bets on whether a word gets said, carry a higher risk of manipulation. One week, two directions: a warning about how some contracts settle, and a request to let traders borrow against the category.
What this page will not add
This desk does not have Kalshi’s filing in hand, so it will not invent the limits, the products, or the odds of approval. It is also not a recommendation to trade prediction markets, on margin or otherwise.
