What was ordered
ZET SCALE, an alliance of shippers and carriers that includes Microsoft and PepsiCo, has ordered 2,500 electric Class 8 trucks. Teslarati reported the order on September 23 and described it as the largest electric-truck deal in the United States, landing with the Tesla Semi.
Class 8 is the heavy end of the truck market: the long-haul tractors that still mostly burn diesel. A 2,500-truck order is large for any electric model. It is not, on the published record, a receipt that says “2,500 Tesla Semis.”
What the report does not split
The Teslarati account does not publish how the 2,500 trucks divide among Tesla and the other makers named alongside it, including Kenworth, RIDE, and Volvo. No dollar figure is in the story. Until a filing or a buyer states the Tesla count, the headline and the order are not the same number.
Dan Priestley, director of the Tesla Semi program, is quoted saying the Semi is designed for a lower cost per mile than diesel. That is a design claim from Tesla’s side of the program. It is not a measured cost from this order, and it is not a reason to buy or sell the stock.
