How to cancel a free trial before it charges
Find the signup email, open the account page, and cancel before the first charge. This is a shopping pass, not advice about which service to keep.

Find the date it charges
Search your email for the trial name and the word trial or welcome. Write three lines: the service, the date the free period ends, and the price it will charge after that. If the email does not name the end date, open the app or the site and look for “trial ends” on the account or billing page.
This is a shopping afternoon. It is not advice about whether the service is worth keeping, what plan to choose, or how to invest the money you do not spend. If a charge is already on the bank statement, that is a different job — start with the statement line and the signup email.
Cancel inside the account
Log in on the web if you can. The app often hides the cancel link. Look for Account, Billing, Subscription, or Manage plan. Write the path you clicked so you can find it again.
- Open the page that shows the trial end date and the next charge amount.
- Choose Cancel, not Pause, and not “remind me later.”
- Confirm the screen that says the subscription will end on the date you wrote, and that you will not be charged.
- Take a screenshot of that confirmation, or save the confirmation email that arrives.
Check it a day later
The next day, open the same account page. The status should read canceled, ended, or will not renew. If it still shows an active trial with a charge date, repeat the cancel and note the time.
Add the service name and the end date to the same page as your Sunday money check. When the bank statement arrives, you already know which line should be missing.
What this afternoon is not
Do not call the support line to cancel if the account page already offers it — the call is how a retention offer starts. Do not delete the app and call that a cancel. And do not treat a “you can rejoin anytime” email as proof the charge is stopped. The confirmation screen is the proof.
If the trial was a free month of something you already pay for elsewhere, write that on the note. One service, one bill.
