How to turn a voice memo into a to-do list with a free AI tool
Record the ramble on your phone, run one prompt, and leave with owners and dates. Do not ask the model to “organize your life.”

Record the mess, not a speech
Walk and talk for three to six minutes. Name the tasks the way you would tell a coworker: what has to happen, who it is for, and when it is due if you already know. Do not outline. The point of the memo is that you would not sit down and write the list.
Use the voice memo app already on the phone. One file, named with the date. If the memo runs past ten minutes, you are journaling. Stop and start a second file for a different pile of work.
Transcribe, then one prompt
Get a transcript from the phone, or drop the file into a free chat tool that accepts audio. Paste the text under this prompt and do not add a second one:
- “Turn this voice memo into a to-do list. Four columns only: Task, Owner, Due, Missing.”
- “One line per task. Use the names I said. If I did not name an owner, write me. If I did not name a date, write no date — do not invent one.”
- “Cut the thinking-out-loud. Keep only work someone can finish.”
- “Under 20 tasks. If two lines are the same job, merge them.”
Fix three lines by hand
Read the list against the last thirty seconds of the recording. Check the owner, the date, and anything that sounds like a promise. Those are the three places a free model writes a tidy task nobody agreed to.
Move the list into whatever you already open on Monday: a notes app, a paper page, the calendar. Do not start a new task tool because the model made a table.
How you know it saved time
Time the old way once: how long you spend turning a ramble into a list. Then time this way, including the listen-back. You want the list out in under fifteen minutes. If you are still rewriting at minute thirty, the memo had no tasks, or you asked the model to prioritize your week.
Keep the same prompt in a note on the phone. Next time you paste. You do not rewrite the instructions.
Can a free AI turn a voice memo into a to-do list?
Yes, if you record the tasks and use one prompt: task, owner, due date, and what is missing. Check the owner and the date before you copy the list.
