A no-spend week that does not wreck your weekend
Freeze only the optional spending. Groceries, gas, and bills stay. Seven days is long enough to see the leaks and short enough to finish.

Name what is frozen
A no-spend week fails when people include groceries and then “break” it on day two at the store. Freeze restaurants, delivery, clothes, apps, and anything you could do next week instead. Keep groceries from your default list, gas or transit to work, medicine, and bills that are due.
Tell the household the dates out loud. A secret challenge you abandon on Saturday night does not teach you anything.
The seven days
One note on your phone. Three lines a day is enough.
- Each evening, write what you almost bought and what you did instead.
- If you spend on a frozen category, write the amount. Do not restart the week. The point is the list, not a perfect streak.
- On day seven, add the almost-bought column. That total is a monthly leak if it repeats. Pick one item to cut for the next 30 days — not all of them.
What to do with the number
Move one week of that leak into the Hold account on the next payday. If the week showed that weekends are the whole problem, plan one specific free plan before Friday, or the following week will look identical.
