Do not paste the whole file into a chat box
A long PDF pasted into a free chat window gets cut off, and the model will still answer as if it saw every page. That is how a summary invents a conclusion from the introduction. Upload the file somewhere that can hold it. NotebookLM is free with a Google account and is built for this. If you cannot use Google, split the PDF into the sections you actually need and feed those, labeled.
Five questions, in this order
Ask them one at a time. If an answer has no page to point at, ask again before you trust it.
- What is this document, in four sentences, using only what it says?
- What does it ask the reader to do?
- Which numbers, dates, or names would change my decision?
- What is left out or marked as unknown?
- Which page should I read myself before I act?
The one-page check
Open the page it named. Confirm the number or the ask with your eyes. If that page does not say what the summary said, the summary is wrong — do not “fix” it with a second prompt that argues the model back into the mistake.
Save the four-sentence version and the page number in your notes. That is the summary. The chat thread is not.
